Buses will not be running tomorrow morning because of the snow. As with any situation, the safety of our students is the utmost importance. If a bus happened to get stuck, we do not want to have students standing outside waiting at their bus stops in the cold temperatures. Buses will be running tomorrow afternoon, as we feel the buses will be able to maneuver better by then. As with any situation like this, if you feel it is not safe to get your kids to school, please call the school and let them know. We feel it is important for parents to have a choice and make the final decision for their student. Please know that these decisions are not made lightly as we know these situations can be an extreme inconvenience for many families. Thank you for your understanding in this difficult matter. Again, buses will not be running tomorrow morning but will be running in the afternoon. We will also be continuing our early release schedule in each school with parent-teacher conferences from 2:00 - 8:00 pm. Thank you!

Just a reminder: Monday February 18th GPS has Parent/Teacher conferences from 2-8 pm in all schools. For this reason each school will be running an early out schedule. WMS will dismiss at 1:18 pm. We look forward to seeing many of you there!

Some of Mrs. Houck’s students delivered valentines to our pre-K students today. Having our older kids have the opportunity to be role models and interact with our younger kids is one of my favorite parts of working at WMS! GO DEMONS!!!

What an amazing culture of kindness at Washington Middles School! Our tree grew from one simple act of kindness to over 100 acts of kindness by our students/staff!! The tree was put together a few weeks ago by our Pre-K teacher Mrs. Damron to teach our kids about random acts of kindness. #WMSDEMONS #GPSCulture #BringBacktheGoldenRule #BeKind

Parent/Guardians,
We wanted to share some information with you regarding something that we have be informed a few of our students are participating in.
The “Pass Out” challenge is where people attempt to make themselves momentarily pass out by depriving their brain of oxygen. It is NOT a safe activity as many young people believe:
* According to the Center for Disease Control, 1,400 children and teens have died from this activity from 2000 to 2015.
* Starving the brain of oxygen can cause:
~Seizures
~Brain Damage
~Coma
~Death
~Accidents
Concussions may occur from someone losing consciousness and hitting their head on a solid object.
A teen died from losing consciousness and then fell on glass slicing his throat.
* Please remember that social media does not, many times, provide you with accurate and factual information. We want our kids to be educated and we will be sharing this information with them tomorrow in home room to attempt to better educate them to the risks. We care about every one of our students and their safety is one of our biggest priorities! If you have futher questions about this, please feel free to contact Sherri Nissley- School Counselor or Mark Goyette- Principal.

We had an awesome assembly today called the "Tour of Kindness." Two of the main messages were your words can make a difference for someone else and people that are different than you are still people and should be treated as such. They also addressed using social media in positive ways instead of negative. Mr. Schreibeis then followed up the presentation by addressing both the MS/HS student body about being an AWESOMIZER instead of an AWEFULIZER! GO DEMONS!!!
